Hey Friends!
This testimony was given on my nineteen birthday at my church.
I was adopted into a Christian family. As we are ended 2019 and I’m nineteen today. It’s a good time to share what I have learned with you regarding spiritual matters. I have been a Christian for nine years. On October 30, 2010 it was a special day because I had the honor of being baptized by my grandpa. Who has since passed on to be with the Lord and I miss him.
The person who has impacted me the most besides my mom is my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Beardsley. On the first day of fourth grade I realized that this wasn’t going to be a standard teacher to student relationship. First things first. Mrs. Beardsley called me Lilybugs. I was the only student she gave a pet name to. Pet names are wonderful! To this day I still communicate with her. On November 30, 2019 I texted Mrs. Beardsley and I said to her, “I’m so blessed that I had you as my fourth teacher. You made everything fun! Yesterday when I was volunteering at The Salvation Army I found this mug that said; “2 teach is 2 touch lives 4 ever.” Which is so true, because you have definitely touched my life, for sure.” Mrs. Beardsley texted me and replied, “Thank you sweet girl! You are too kind!! I’m blessed because you were my student 😉 God knew what he was doing when he put us together!! I love that you’re volunteering. That’s so important!!” Mrs. Beardsley treated me like her own daughter, which was very sweet.
For me moving from Lakeland to Vero Beach FL was very tough for me but I knew that God had a purpose. At first I didn’t realized why God wanted me to move. When I look back on this situation I understand, that God wanted me connect to certain people and learned how to find resources.
One of the ways I feel close to God is by observing the heavens and it gives me the feeling that God is always with me. Another way I hear God speaking to me is through bible verses. One of my favorites is Jeremiah 29:11 which says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
So, as I move though life and tackle new challenges instead of relying on the promise of good things coming like Jeremiah 29:11 says. . . I sometimes give to much weight to the negative voices, tell me “things are not going to work out.” I need to trust in and know his power will work out for the best. Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
For people who don’t know me well. You may think beside the general problem of fear. What other challenges could I at nineteen have? Some examples are daily, I deal with organization and memory concerns related to my ADHD as well as the last two or three years our family budget has been the tightest it’s ever been and there is lingering matters to resolve connected to my adoption.
Humility means to be humble. It’s not only just my cousin’s name, it is a word that keeps on coming up in my life. For me the word Humility sometimes is a little hard to understand. As I trust in God it becomes more clearer. ~ Hope gives me confidence that God’s light will shine in all situations. My church family brings me Harmony. Especially my best friends Rachel Harvey. When I am ever in a room with Rachel, we either are laughing or smiling, which makes me full of Joy.
The Harvey family got me thinking. They don’t have New Year’s resolutions, instead they have a word of the year. I thought this was a great idea. So, I am going to borrow it. My word of the year for 2020 will be Valor. Valor means to me that I am going to be courageous though Christ. I also have been thinking about going into some form of ministry. Thanks for listening and being my brothers and sisters in Christ.
P.S. You know you’re always welcome to share your thoughts or similar experiences on any of my posts and future ones too. It will makes my day to hear what God has planned for you.
